Is there a way to turn off/on the cd tray from inside the computer?

I have an HP laptop and my cd tray wont turn off. It wont open by its self i have to put the paperclip into the hole, and but the green light stays on all the time, with and without a cd, and whether its open or closed. The computer never thinks theres anything in it, and its not recognizing the drive at all.

From inside the computer, you can disconnect the cable to the drive and that should turn it off. It’s a little more tedious on a laptop than on a desktop. It sounds like there is a serious problem with your cd drive. You might want to check HP’s website to see if there are any known conflicts with that model of drive. If your laptop is still under the 1 year warranty, you could also contact them and see about replacing it.
